Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy

Build strong literacy foundations by understanding how autistic children process spoken language.

Learning to read is about far more than recognising letters and sounds. For many autistic children, differences in auditory processing, language comprehension, attention, and working memory can make traditional literacy instruction challenging. This practical workshop explores how speech pathologists can deliver explicit, evidence-informed foundational literacy therapy that accommodates these differences while building confidence and success.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

Understand how auditory processing differences can impact literacy development.
Teach phonological awareness using explicit, multisensory approaches.
Support listening, attention, and working memory during literacy activities.
Adapt literacy instruction to meet the learning profiles of autistic children.
